About Me

I’m Evan Berger, RCC, a Registered Clinical Counsellor.

Trauma, stress, and life’s pressures don’t resolve on their own—especially when they begin to affect relationships. I work with youth, adults, and couples who want therapy that is practical, thoughtful, and focused on real change. Together, we look at what’s keeping you stuck—individually or as a couple—and build greater clarity, emotional steadiness, and more workable ways of relating.

My approach is attachment-based and trauma-informed, and my work with couples is guided by my training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I integrate evidence-based and somatic approaches to help individuals and couples process trauma, regulate stress, and shift unhelpful patterns such as emotional shutdown, recurring conflict, or disconnection. You’ll always understand what we’re working on, why it matters, and how it supports meaningful, lasting change.

For couples, this often means slowing things down enough to understand what’s happening beneath surface conflict—unmet attachment needs, protective responses, and moments where connection breaks down—and learning how to respond differently when pressure arises. The goal isn’t to assign blame, but to create safety, repair ruptures, and strengthen trust.

My Professional Path

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master of Counselling Psychology. Before becoming a therapist, I earned a Bachelor of Education and built a career in the trades, holding a Red Seal Boilermaker Journeyperson Ticket.

This mix of experiences allows me to connect authentically with people navigating high-pressure work, major life transitions, and personal challenges—whether in the classroom, on the job site, or at home.

Today, I bring these paths together in my counselling practice, offering a grounded, practical approach that blends professional training with lived experience.

My additional training includes

  • Two extended, in-depth courses in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Steven C. Hayes, the founder of ACT.

  • Completion of the Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy Externship and am a member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT),

  • I have completed the first two years of the three-year Somatic Experiencing Practitioner training through Somatic Experiencing International, a comprehensive program focused on trauma resolution and nervous system regulation.

Outside The Office

Outside of counselling, I spend much of my time outdoors—mountain biking, skiing, and exploring new trails. I’m also a father, which keeps me grounded, humble, and continually learning about patience and balance.

Family life is one of the reasons I’m passionate about supporting parents, especially new dads, as they navigate the challenges and rewards of raising children while managing work and personal pressures.
